Eid Celebrations for Inmates
Up until late 2010, the state of California did not provide Halal meat to Muslim inmates. We supplied two prisons with the meat that they needed for their banquets to celebrate both Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha. To do this, we collected funds as well as contacted various organizations to sponsor the cost of the meat. This networking culminated in a joint project between ICNA Bay Area and the Tayba Foundation. This project is called “Feed the Prisoners” and is on the ICNA Bay Area website. It was initiated by the late Tariq Khanzada, God rest his soul, who passed away in January of 2011. ICNA will collect the funds to purchase the meat, cut, store and deliver it. Tayba will coordinate with the various prisons in California that need Halal meat for the banquets to receive the ICNA sponsored meat. To see more about this program visit the ICNA website
