Rehabilitation Programs and Re-entry
Support of Rehabilitation Program: Two of our pilot students in the El Hajj Malik Shabazz Program are co-founders of a rehabilitation program called the Timeless Group (http:// timelessgroup.webs.com/). Tayba sponsors this very successful rehabilitation program that is completely run by inmates. This is a successful program that is recognized and supported by the prison administration where it is being conducted. It is at no cost to the prison and has proven to be very successful. We sponsor the program by covering various costs associated with the program and sending books that are used in the rehabilitation programs.
Support for Re-entry: One of the greatest challenges an inmate will face is re-entering society. The Tayba Foundation offers re-entry support to inmates who have participated in our programs while incarcerated. We assist in coordinating participation in programs that are available in an effort to minimize costs to our organization. We also assist in providing zakat funds to individuals during their re-entry period. We are currently pursuing establishing transitional housing with the help of a volunteer who was mentored by the late Imam Bilal (David Lewis) of East Palo Alto. Imam Bilal established a nationally recognized rehabilitation and re-entry program (http://www.freeatlast.org/david.html).
