
Looking Ahead at 2021
Tayba will not stop growing until we’re able to provide all the services incarcerated Muslims need. While we have a long way to go, we use every year as an opportunity to get closer to our target.
Below are some of our goals for the coming year. We will update our newsletter subscribers about progress on these over the course of the year, insha’Allah.
Islamic Education
Improve our IHSN101 course with additional commentary and an abridged translation of Imam al-Haddad’s “Book of Assistance
Release IHSN201, a new course using a Tayba student’s translation and commentary on on a text about purifying the hear
Test major improvements to existing courses to boost student engagement and interaction with facult
Life Skills
Launch an additional Motivational Interviewing course, focused on giving students the skills to change themselves and those around th
Launch an Islamic 12-step Addiction Recovery program, designed by Tayba students in collaboration with our Life Skills department
Train a pilot groups of facilitators for the PREP marriage course, an evidence-based program teaching marriage skills to incarcerated men who are husbands or will get married after release
Establish a “Community of Practice” (CoP): a large group of prisoner-led group facilitators to share feedback and develop better practices
Re-Entry
Establish a Muslim halfway house in San Bernardino County (one of those most economically depressed counties in California) to provide key resources like halal food, prayer and wudu facilities, counselling, etc.
Develop a Tayba re-entry textbook using our current Islamic Education and Life Skills curricula to be piloted by the Detroit halfway house in partnership with DREAM. We hope this can over time mature into a program we can then offer to other halfway houses
